Payday 2, the recent first-person shooter from Overkill Software and Starbreeze, has sold almost 1.6 million copies worldwide on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms, and more than 80% of those units were digital downloads.

Payday 2 is the sequel to Payday: The Heist, and continues the tradition of cooperative heists, allowing players to go on all sorts of missions in order to get as much money as possible from banks, jewelry stores, or different shady individuals.

Developers Overkill and Starbreeze already confirmed that the game was profitable based on the number of pre-orders registered before its launch, and now the studios have revealed that more than 1.58 million copies of the game have been sold worldwide across the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

What's more, around 80 percent of the units sold were digital downloads, proving the popularity of the medium for small, lightweight and lower-priced titles.
