Overkill isn't thinking about Payday 3 just yet

Payday 2 developer Overkill Software isn't keen on making sequels like Payday 3 or 4, as instead of that it wants to release more and more content, both free and premium, for existing owners of the current game.

Payday 2 launched way back in 2013 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms around the world. Since then, developer Overkill has released a huge amount of free updates filled with special content, not to mention various premium DLC packs that added new characters, guns, and heists.

Overkill wants to debut more content for the game

Overkill is set to debut Payday 2: Crimewave Edition on PS4 and Xbox One this June, but this doesn't mean that it's done with releasing new content for the regular game.

Quite the opposite, according to the studio's Almir Listo, who talks with VG247 about the special community the studio built for Payday 2.

The developer explains that there's no desire among its staff to create a new Payday game, at least not just yet, as instead the team wants to deliver even more great content for those who've already invested in Payday 2.

"We don’t want to do Payday 3 and Payday 4 and Payday 5: Advanced Combat or whatever. We want to continue pushing out stuff for Payday 2 for those that already bought into it. We do these updates not because we were frantically looking for the next thing to work on, but because we wanted to continue to give the fans something who had already bought into the experience," Listo explains.

As such, those that have yet to invest in Payday 2 can certainly do so even now, almost two years after its original launch, as Overkill has no plans to stop supporting the game. You can expect to hear more about the next DLC packs for Payday 2 and its upcoming Crimewave Edition in the near future.
