Yet another important app lands on Microsoft's mobile OS

The official PayPal Here app for Windows Phone is now available for download, approximately one month after the PC version made its debut in the Windows Store.

While the majority of users are very unlikely to install this app on their devices, its arrival in the Windows Phone Store is actually good news for Microsoft, as the company still struggles to convince more developers to port their software to the modern platform.

It's a well-known fact that one of the biggest issues in Windows Phone is the lack of apps, so the more programs developed by large companies, the bigger the chances to see more people giving it a shot.

PayPal Here could be living proof that interest in developing for Windows Phone is growing, but there's no doubt that Microsoft still has a very long way to go to compete with rivals Android and iOS in this regard. Right now, iOS and Android are said to each have around 1.3 million apps in the store, whereas Windows has around 600,000 apps in the two PC and phone stores.

Key features

In essence, PayPal Here is an application that allows PayPal transactions to be performed on the go with a very simple and intuitive interface and easy-to-use features. All you have to do is plug in debit and credit card readers into the 3.5mm jack port of your Windows Phone device and start making point-of-sale transactions through the device.

Needless to say, this is the kind of app that's more appropriate for businesses, but it's worth knowing that a 2.7 percent fee is retained for each performed transaction in the United States.

PayPal Here works exclusively on Windows Phone 8.1 and doesn't come with any restriction in terms of device and hardware, so you can install it on both low- and high-end phones.
