Although many weeks have gone by since those two scandalous live interviews that the 'American Idol' judge gave, Paula Abdul is eager to put your mind at ease (again!) as to her not being a drunk. In cases like this one, it's only normal that people's reaction be something like 'Dude, thou doth protest too much!' but that doesn't mean that the singer/dancer/movie star does not make a strong point.
The whole scandal blew out of proportions when Paula's erratic behavior went to the next level. If, until then, she was seen slurring her words and acting somehow offhandish during auditions for the popular talent competition, this time she was on the point of falling off her chair. The moment the videos of her apparently drunk got leaked on the Internet, the media was head over heels over this story: it was as if they finally had confirmation of what they had suspected for a couple of years was, in fact, true.
The very next day, Paula, her publicist and a spokesperson for Fox fought back the media reports, citing as reason for the odd behavior the fact that the star was just too 'tired'. All the parties involved claimed that the former choreographer did not use to be a drinker, vouching even that they had not seen her in their life take a sip of alcohol.
Now, when the waters seemed calmed at last, Paula needs to make sure that you got the message right: she is NOT a drunk. Copy that? In an interview with 'Us Weekly' magazine (out on newsstands on February 16), she goes over the whole story again, saying that people like to make a fuss when no fuss is necessary. Basically, she stands by her previous statements, saying that she is not 'on' anything when she's at the 'American Idol' auditions.
'I've never been drunk. I have never done recreational drugs. Just look at my 20-year career. Tell me someone who is into partying or doing drugs that could have done that. There have been 100 million lies about me. I'm squeaky clean. I've worked my ass off my entire life. [But] being involved in the show causes people to question everything.', Paula tells the mag.
However, many speculate that this brand new interview comes at a moment when rumor has it that she will be replaced. Then again, this wouldn't be the first time that the media has her fired and replaced with someone more 'suitable'. Also, some claim that Michael Jackson is to make his comeback on the show, as a special guest at first, and then, later, if the ratings are going well, as a permanent fixture, probably replacing Paula.
