Paula Abdul is devastated at the news that CBS has decided to pull the plug on her latest talent competition, Live to Dance, after just one season of less than stellar ratings, it has emerged.

After American Idol, Paula took her time in taking up another offer for a similar show. Eventually, she settled for Live to Dance, which she also produced, as we also told you a while back.

The series, obviously focusing on finding the most talented dancer in the US, debuted to strong ratings but progressively lost the attention of the target audience, which explains the network’s decision to cancel it.

An official announcement of the cancelation is yet to be made, Radar Online reports, but Paula has already been informed of the decision – and she’s heartbroken over it.

In fact, since she was told that the show would not return for another season, Paula has been under lockdown in her California home, waiting for the shock to wear off, sources close to her tell Radar.

“Paula loved that show and she hoped CBS would give it at least one more season to win viewers. But they were just not willing to take that risk,” says one such spy.

Admittedly, with each new week of the show, Paula kept hoping that ratings would pick up – which they never did. Now, she simply doesn’t know what to do next with her career.

“Although there’s been talk she may be asked to join Simon Cowell’s new X Factor show this fall, she’s not been asked,” says the spy.

“And because of the way she treated Simon when she left Idol… demanding more money than they were willing to pay… she fears her diva attitude back then will cause her to lose out on an X Factor invitation,” the insider explains.

As of now, CBS is yet to announce whether Live to Dance will return for a second season. Seeing how only about 4 million people tuned in for the final, chances of it getting picked up are slim to none, word online has it.
