Do you remember the two videos that appeared on the Internet with Paula Abdul and from which many concluded that she was doing live interviews while drunk? Well, there are more explanations to come in what respects them, that's for sure... Paula Abdul, in her position as one of the judges of the hit talent show 'American Idol', was doing what is called 'satellite tour', meaning she was sitting in a control room, facing a camera and giving live interviews to various networks and channels all over the country. The idea in itself is very simple but Paula had really serious troubles with making herself understood. The two videos show Paula more than confused, slurring her words and focusing her eyes on the camera only with the utmost difficulty. She makes jokes than only she understands and it's obvious that even the interviewers are barely abstaining themselves from bursting into laughter. Immediately as the footage appeared on the Internet, Paula's publicist issued a statement in which he said that the odd behavior was definitely not because she was drunk or high but due to her being exhausted and to some technical difficulties. FOX also came to her defense, by saying that something malfunctioned and she couldn't understand what was being said to her... therefore, the strange answers. Paula herself went into damage control mode and chose to give her own account of what really happened. Yesterday, she was a guest on Ellen DeGeneres and she said that the satellite transmission went wrong. '[I had] two cities in my ear...I'm answering Birmingham answers but it's airing in Seattle's morning show, so it looked like I was just in my own little world.', was how she worded her explanation. On Monday, she also did 'The Tonight Show' with Jay Leno and her story was basically the same, only with more details: 'I did a big week of press all last week in New York, and on the third day I did one of those press junkets where you're in that one little room and you're looking at one camera and there are 30 cities talking into your ear. I guess Alabama was in my ear and so was Seattle at the same time, so I'm answering questions to the wrong answers of the cities. So they're going, "What the heck what is she saying?"'. I guess this settles it: Paula Abdul was NOT drunk when she gave those interviews. The brand new season 'American Idol' premiered on Tuesday and, to paraphrase Paula's own words, it is going to be the wackiest season ever. Stay tuned!
