Paula Abdul reportedly believes American Idol is dead, is actually happy about it

Former American Idol judge Paula Abdul is convinced that the show is breathing its last now that even Simon Cowell has jumped ship – and she couldn’t be happier about it.

Friends of the singer – who left the show after producers reportedly refused to give her a bigger paycheck to continue with her contract – are telling the media she’s gushing about the death of American Idol to whoever will listen.

Paula, it would seem, is actually happy that the show will soon be pulled because she feels vindicated, friends say for the National Enquirer, the print edition (story via here).

“Mark my words, you are watching the death of American Idol! It’s on its last legs! No one can save it!” Paula reportedly gushed to a friend.

“Paula - who exited the show in a huff over salary issues just before last season - it tickled that producers are having trouble finding entertaining judges and worthy contestants for the 10th edition of the one-time powerhouse reality series, which begins in January,” the Enquirer writes.

As we also reported on several previous occasions, producers reportedly had a very hard time finding two judges to replace the three that decided to leave at the end of last season.

Eventually, they locked Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler in contracts, who thus come to replace Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi.

Because they turned their back on her when she asked for more money, Paula believes producers are seeing the tables turn on them.

“She believes it serves them right for letting her walk away. Paula still believes that she was the best thing Idol had going for it, and producers let her slip through their fingers by being so tightfisted when she was renegotiating her contract…” the source says.

What’s more, Lopez reportedly got $12 million for a one-year contract, which is $2 million more than what Paula had asked for before deciding to leave.

“What goes around comes around. The show could have saved a lot of aggravation and money if they had just given me what I deserved,” Abdul reportedly told the same friend now talking to the Enquirer.
