Paula Abdul is seeing her dream come true: introducing us regular folks into her everyday life by means of her reality show 'Hey Paula', a show which did so poorly in terms of ratings when it debuted that the producers seriously considered pulling the plug on it after its first episode. Because, in all fairness, 'Hey Paula' is far from a reality show as we understand it - it's more a cry of help from the wackiest 'American Idol' ever, as the critics were already quick to point out.
Anyway, this week's episode was probably the most depressing one so far, topping even the one in which she meets with her people in order to discuss her new fragrance and, at one point, drops a perfume sampler on the floor, bends to pick it up and simply finds no meaning in standing up again! Today, we get to witness a Paula meltdown caused by her finding out, via email, that she had just been fired from 'Bratz', the movie she had been working on, like, forever.
Apparently, Paula was supposed to work on the project as executive producer and choreographer and, to top all that, she was also signed to create a special line of Bratz dolls to promote the flick. And, then, out of the blue, she is let go without prior notice and, the strangest of all strange things, via her email. It's like Kevin Federline being dumped by Britney Spears via text message all over again!
We get to hear Paula saying that this was the most horrible thing that could ever happen to her, an injustice so great that it makes her wonder where God was when the decision was made. Obviously, she doesn't deserve it and her tears are there to prove it. Aside from the fact that the reaction is, if not exaggerated and a tad immature for the sake of the camera always focusing on her face, at least what any of us would be doing when learning we got fired (that is, normal), it's sad to see that Paula is, sadly, all alone in this. And we're not talking only about the absence of God in the entire scheme, either!
At one point, overcome by pain and grief, Paula is trying to tell her viewers how bad she feels for being so unjustly treated by the staff on 'Bratz' when two of her many assistants burst into giggles (supposedly from something not related to Paula's drama). This is when the 'American Idol' yells 'You guys! I'm trying to tell a goddamn story!' and then storms out of the room. Too bad she missed that insolent smirk on one of the girls' face! That should have been the real drama and not the fact that she was let go!
Anyway, watch the clip below. Maybe she was treated poorly and maybe she didn't deserve to be fired, but she surely has a... very unique way of coping with the whole situation.
