With network-attached storage devices becoming more and more common, companies are creating better and more reliable products in order to give networks the needed storage capabilities. NAS devices have already become mainstream as a storage solution for small and medium businesses, playing the part of central digital media and file 'hub' for the entire network. Patriot has unveiled its latest such product, the Valkyrie NAS device, with up to 4TB of storage.

"The addition of Valkyrie to our NAS solutions, with its enhanced functionality and ease of use gives consumers a powerful solution at an affordable price" Jack Chen, Patriot's peripheral product manager, says. "Our goal is to bring products to the market that provide versatility, scalability and functionality at a price that consumers feel offer[s] comparable product features to the high end devices, yet are affordable to the everyday user."

The Valkyrie is aimed at prosumer and SOHO users and is a device with two storage bays. This means that the aforementioned 4TB of storage can be reached by equipping the Valkyrie with two SATA HDDs of 2TB each. The product features a compact design and a flexible interface, which is powerful enough to manage multiple users and access rights.

The Valkyrie even boasts a web-access feature, which enables instant and secure remote access to all digital files stored. Not only does this feature enable the transfer of files to anywhere in the world over the Internet, but the built-in UPnP and DLNA support and iTunes server even allow for multimedia streaming and BitTorrent downloading.

The Valkyrie boasts a 500 MHz embedded processor, 128MB of RAM, RAID 0, 1 and JBOD support for data security, as well as fast Gigabit network capabilities. In addition, it supports folder, user and group management, system backup, scheduled back and direct USB backup. The device also supports ADS Active Directory Services and has a multilingual interface.

The product is already listed by online retailers such as Amazon.com, where it is priced at $165.
