For “those looking for a compact design that doesn’t compromise performance”

Patriot Memory has formally launched a new flash drive unit, one that bets on convenience, performance and physical endurance in its attempt to reel in prospective customers.

The company's press release actually makes a point of emphasizing the importance of the slide to connect design, which “provides best in class protection from wear and tear.”

Coupled with the connector, the design makes the Supersonic Rage XT, as the flash device is called, “perfect […] for those looking for a compact design that doesn’t compromise performance.”

We can't really say we consider this such a big selling point though. Practically all flash drives of today are small without being any slower than larger models. It all comes naturally to the USB 3.0 interface after all.

Indeed, Patriot Memory's Supersonic Rage XT boasts the latest iteration of the Universal Serial Bus standard, SuperSpeed as it is otherwise dubbed.

Not that there was room for any less. While USB 2.0 drives haven't completely stopped being made, the interface isn't practical anymore, especially on large-capacity units like this one. USB 2.0 ports will still be backwards-supported of course, but they will be a drag when trying to copy anything larger than a gigabyte or two.

That said, Patriot decided on two storage options: 32 GB and 64 GB.

“The Supersonic Rage XT is an excellent new edition to fill the performance segment in our Supersonic brand family”, said Meng Jay Choo, Patriot Memory’s product manager.

“With the enhanced speeds and extremely portable form factor, the Supersonic Rage XT is an excellent solution for those looking for excellent performance in a small durable form factor at a very affordable price.”

Sadly, that “very affordable price” was left undisclosed, along with the availability date, but at least the product pages are already up (32 GB and 64 GB).
