Memory and SSD company Patriot Memory has just launched the new Gauntlet Node external HDD enclosure. This is a special 2.5” HDD enclosure that will connect to any wireless device. It needs no wires at all, and it also comes with an internal battery.

Patriot’s new toy will allow you and your friends to enjoy your music, pictures and movies collection on a 2 TB HDD.

Let’s say you’re traveling with your friends. No matter whether you’re in the same car or next to each other on a train, each one of you will be able to access the Gauntlet Node and laugh at the same pictures collections.

No wires are needed, as the Gauntlet node comes with a built-in WirelessN device and it even packs a Lithium-ion Polymer battery that’s rated to last about 5 hours.

The device will allow 8 simultaneous wireless links to share the data on the drive and supports HDD with capacities up to 2 TB.

The internal interface is of SATA II variety, but we can’t complain, as the WirelessN wouldn’t allow 400 MB/s speeds anyway.

The wireless network is secured using the popular WPS standard, and to put the data on it, the user has a fast USB 3.0 interface that will not limit the write speed.

The maximum rated performance for Patriot’s Gauntlet Node is just 150 Mb/s and the antenna is completely internal.

The PCB antenna will probably have sufficient signal power to allow you and your friends to enjoy sharing the data while in the same room.

Priced at $99 (€80) we wouldn’t call Patriot’s Gauntlet Node affordable, but it’s certainly useful, capable and unique.
