When it comes down to SSDs Patriot doesn't have the greatest track record available, but that doesn't stop them for trying yet again to take the solid state market by storm with their new Torqx TRB drives that feature an improved Jmicron controller that should make all those performance problems that we witnessed before a thing of the past.

Available in 32GB and 64GB capacities these new drives claim they can deliver “stutter-free performance” while also offering read speeds of up to 260MB/s, write speeds as high as 115MB/s and TRIM support, provided that you use a compatible operating system like Windows 7.

All these are made possible by JMicron's JMF616 controller that comes with 64MB DDR2 cache memory, in order to surpass the performance problems that JM602 users were complaining about.

“As solid-state drive technology advances, we are able to develop SSD solutions that provide the performance users want while reaching the affordable price points they demand.

Patriot’s objective is to offer the latest technology while providing the best performance and price options”, states Les Henry, Vice President of Engineering at Patriot.

“Our Torqx TRB family of SSDs meet these goals.

Users upgrading with a Torqx TRB SSD will benefit from improved transfer rates, quicker boot times and the reliability of solid-state storage in their boot drive option.

Including a Torqx SSD in your desktop or notebook upgrade plans provides one of the best bang-for-the buck improvements you can make to your system,” concluded the company's rep.

Both drives come with a three year warranty, the Torqx TRB 64GB retailing for €118 while the 32GB model will be available for €74.

All in all, I can say these should prove to be quite interesting options for those users in search of a SSD boot drive, if JMicron has managed to get past its controller problems, that is.
