Earlier this month, Patriot Memory announced the latest addition to its line of Flash-based Solid State Drives, with the introduction of the new Fusion series. Following the Fusion series, Patriot Memory announced today the expansion of its SSD lineup with the introduction of the new Torqx SSD series, designed to provide computer users with a choice for a high-performance Flash-based storage solution, which combines an additional 64MB of DRAM cache with the current NAND-flash technology.

“With SSD technologies becoming more 'mainstream' in the consumer market, Patriot's goal is to give their customers discretion across their purchasing preferences,” says Meng J. Choo, Patriot's Flash product manager. “In these tough economic times, consumers are looking for options; our goal is to give them that opportunity to add new technology, and have no reservations about their decisions.”

The Fremont, California-based company is specialized in designing high-performance memory and taking advantage of the latest in NAND flash technology. Its Flash-based high-performance SSD lineup also includes two other series of Flash drives, namely the Warp Series SSD v2 and Warp Series SSD v3, which were among the first to be announced by the memory vendor. The latest addition, dubbed Torqx, will be available in capacities of 64GB, 128GB and the higher-capacity 256GB models. Equipped with a SATA II interface, the new SSDs from Patriot Memory can deliver sequential read and write speeds of up to 220MB/s and 180MB/s (for the 128GB and 256GB models), respectively.

Additional features of the P256 include an MTBF of 2.5 Million hours and a weight of 91g. The drive is shock and vibration resistant and can easily be considered an upgrade option for portable computer systems, thanks to its 2.5-inch form factor. Unfortunately, Patriot Memory hasn't announced any details regarding the pricing and availability of its latest line of Torqx SSD Series.
