The computer storage market has increased significantly in the past few months, with a number of new companies joining the fast growing wave of flash-based solid state drives. As technology further improves, higher-performance and more affordable SSDs are made available to customers worldwide. Such is the case of Patriot Memory, which has recently decided to expand its line of Flash-based SSDs with the introduction of its new Fusion SSD Series. Designed to boost the computer's performance, the new Fusion SSDs from Patriot are offered in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities.

“By the addition of the DRAM cache, the Fusion greatly increases the random and sequential read and write transfer rates,” according to Meng J. Choo, Patriot's Flash product manager. He goes on to say, “The DRAM acts as a buffer and increases the reliability, and lessens the possibility for 'bottlenecks' within the data transfers.”

The company's new drives are designed with a SATA II-interface, making them compatible with some of the latest computer systems on the market. Available in capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, the new drives deliver an impressive performance and are featured with support for RAID 0, 1, 0+1, enabling a better storage management for the end-user. According to their manufacturer, the 256GB and 128GB models will be capable of providing a sequential read speed of up to 260MB/s, while the sequential write speed is rated at 180MB/s. For the 64GB variant, these numbers are specified at 220MB/s and 135MB/s respectively.

Additional features include shock and vibration resistance, an MTBF of close to 2,5 million hours and a weight of 91g. Unfortunately, the memory company hasn't unveiled any details regarding the pricing and availability of its new Fusion SSD series. However, when made available, these new drives will come with a 2-year warranty.
