After a long and exhausting season in the Serie A with Juventus Turin, the French midfielder Patrick Vieira had to go through another trouble.
If his friends and colleagues from the Serie A club had to see their houses searched by the Italian magistrates, he had to see his own residence suffer the same treatment from… robbers. And, if you think we're talking about unprofessional robbers, you might feel differently after you hear the whole story.
The thieves used a pretty inventive device. They managed to get into the house, even if Vieira, his wife and his daughter were in, and take everything they considered valuable. And if you're wondering how they did that, here it is. They pumped enough gas into the house so that the members of the Vieira family will have to fall asleep. Apparently, they did so through the air conditioning system. So, after taking care that they won't be disturbed during the robbery, the thieves were free to steal whatever they thought necessary from the Cannes residence.
When Vieira and his family woke up, they found their house upside down, and all the shelves almost empty. The thieves have also taken Mrs. Vieira's Mercedes, so they could get as far as possible from the Vieira mansion. The car was later found though, on the French coast, near Nice.
The police are now investigating the whole case, but, as far as the first information are concerned, nothing seems to point to a well-planed attack on Vieira necessarily. The investigators think that Vieira was robbed by accident: "we have started investigating on this case, but, upon our current information, we can't say that Mr. Vieira was specifically targeted".
A few hours after he called the police, Patrick Vieira had to go practice with the French national football team, since France is preparing for the FIFA World Cup in Germany, which gets under way in about 15 days. His wife, Cheryl Vieira, and daughter, Cheries, had to be taken to the hospital, since they were suffering from headaches after waking up.
