Some OpenType fonts disappear after installing the latest Patch Tuesday updates

One of the updates included in Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday cycle for December 2012 is breaking down fonts on Windows XP and Windows 7 for CorelDraw, Quark Xpress and Flexi users.

According to some support forum posts, it’s all because of the MS12-078 update supposed to fix a vulnerability that could allow remote code execution when a user launched a specially crafted document or visited a malicious webpage that embedded TrueType or OpenType fonts, as Microsoft explained.

The affected users claim that uninstalling this specific update should fix the bug temporarily until Microsoft rolls out an official patch. Reverting to a previous System Restore Point should also help.

The issue has been confirmed on Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7, both 32- and 64-bit builds, with CorelDraw versions X3 to X6 among the affected software.
