The firmware update has apparently solved a major Pro bug

Yesterday’s Patch Tuesday fixes came with plenty of goodies for Surface Pro owners, but aside from limited Wi-Fi bug fixes and the addition of Windows To Go, the released update also included some improvements aimed at the overheating problems reported by users in the past weeks.

While Microsoft hasn’t provided any detailed information on these overheating reports, the company apparently used the Patch Tuesday update to address the issues and fix the problems.

Several users have confirmed on the Microsoft support forums that temperatures had dropped significantly after applying the latest updates released by Microsoft, while the overall stability had also been improved.

“With the new firmware update, I haven't seen any FPS drops in Dota 2 or Tomb Raider. My max processor state is set to 100%. Count me impressed, Microsoft,” one user said on the forums.

Another Surface Pro owner has looked into the updates and provided more information on the fix that was apparently developed to address the overheating issues.

“It looks like the ‘surprise’ firmware update released yesterday (3/12) seems to have changed the behavior of the delivered GPU power (watts) and also how it handles clock speed in a much more dynamic fashion compared to before,” he wrote.

“After testing between yesterday and today we are very pleased with the performance delivery. Seems the load is spread much more evenly when both the CPU / GPU are stressed under full load (pretty even 4/6, 5/5 split of the 10w).”

Microsoft is yet to release a public statement on these improvements, but it looks like the company has moved pretty fast to address this issue.

On the other hand, the Wi-Fi connectivity bug seems to persist after applying the released patches, so Microsoft will most likely release a new batch of updates to resolve this problem in the near future.
