Developer id Software and publisher Bethesda have released a new patch for their first person shooter RAGE which introduces a number of new graphical options for the PC version of the game and allows players to have more control over how they play the game.

When the game was first launched during last week players found that only basic settings changes were possible on the PC, meaning that the actual graphical settings were auto-decided by the id Tech 5 engine via an automated process.

Gamers on the PC have long been able to play around with a large number of graphics options on most games in order to make their games look the best they can on the configuration of their gaming machine.

The notes that accompany the patch say, “The original release of RAGE does not expose many video graphics options for people to tweak because some of these settings, although desirable from a quality perspective, simply will not work on specific configurations either due to hardware limitations and/or driver bugs. Due to popular demand for more video and graphics options, this patch updates the video settings menu and exposes several quality and performance settings. However, not everyone may be able to increase the settings due to hardware limitations and/or driver bugs.”

Those who have RAGE and allow Steam to update it will now be able to tweak settings like texture cache, anisotropic filtering and V-sync.

The patch notes on the Steam service allow player to also quickly download and install the drivers that best support RAGE and there are also known issues linked to cards from both Nvidia and AMD.

RAGE was affected by pretty serious graphics problems when it was launched, with many players reporting that the game was pretty much unplayable.

Putting these issues aside the id Software shooter has been praised for its solid mechanics and good set pieces.
