Santa Clara, California-based Intel, the world's largest manufacturer of computer processors, is expected to announce a significant change in the company's management, according to people familiar with the matter, cited in a recent news report. One of the major changes that will take place in the chip maker's executive organization will see Pat Gelsinger, the senior vice president in charge of the chip maker's enterprise group, leaving the company, after 30 years in which he took on various roles. The move will consequently lead to a couple of changes, seeing some of the company's current executives taking on more responsibilities.

According to a report on the New York Times, Intel is about to announce a couple of management changes that will see Sales and Marketing Chief Sean Maloney taking on the company's major chip business, while Davi Perlmutter will be taking over the engineering for all chip divisions, a step forward from his current position as the head of Intel's laptop chip division. These are, apparently, consequences of Pat Gelsinger's said leave from Intel.

Although no official statements have yet been made, the story is related to a news article on The Wall Street Journal that claims EMC Corp. will announce on Monday that 48-year-old Patrick Gelsinger will take on the storage-product operations and some smaller software units, at EMC, leaving the company that he has served for 30 years, taking on various positions, namely the one of chief of Intel Labs and Intel's CTO.

Patrick Gelsinger has been one of the regular executives at Intel's IDF events over the last few years, as his keynotes have provided details on Intel's latest products to a less technical audience. Unfortunately, no official statements have yet been made by Pat Gelsinger or any of Intel's other representatives, but we will keep you informed as details emerge.
