For an unknown reason Pastebin is hit again with a massive attack

Pastebin, the number one paste tool since 2002, is yet again targeted by a massive distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack.

On the day in which Pastebin’s developers revealed the fact that the 3.1 version has gone online, they also posted a tweet to say that they were being hit by another DDOS attack.

On February 22, 7 hours ago, to be more precise, another Twitter message informed followers that they’re working on mitigating another attack.

“Things are kind of under control again. Blocked over 4000 IP's from a huge attacking bot network. Why the attacks happen? We got no clue,” read a tweet posted 6 hours ago.

Currently, the attack is ongoing and Pastebin is blocking more IPs to keep the site running.

“Pastebin is still under attack from a huge bot network. So far we have blocked nearly 9000 IP's, and we keep finding new ones,” Pastebin representatives wrote.

Update. Pastebin issued an official statement regarding the series of DDOS attacks that have targeted their site.

“So far we have been able to block about 20,000 IP's, but this number is growing by the minute. These IP's are most likely from innocent people who have no clue that their computer is being used for this purpose. It is highly recommended that you always have up-to-date antivirus software installed, and a good Firewall active,” reads their statement.

Later today they plan on publishing the list of IPs so that Internet users can check if their computers are part of this botnet. Those whose devices are compromised will not be able to access the site until the issue is resolved.

“We sincerely apologize for the times that we were unable to block the attacks, and we will continue to fight these attacks as well as we can to make sure Pastebin is available 24/7,” their statement concludes.
