ElcomSoft, a company specializing in password recovery and information security technologies and algorithms, has confirmed an impressive feat - their Distributed Password Recovery tool is the first to recover passwords for Numbers, Pages and Keynote apps.

Today ElcomSoft confirmed that the company could at the moment recover passwords protecting Apple iWork documents.

“Apple used strong AES encryption with 128-bit keys, which makes password attack the only feasible solution,” according to Andy Malyshev, ElcomSoft CTO.

Even though the recovery process is “painfully slow,” Mr. Malyshev said, “our product’s advanced dictionary attacks help recover a significant share of these passwords in reasonable timeframe.”

The key benefit touted by Elcomsoft for its Distributed Password Recovery tool is Hardware Acceleration. A patent-pending feature, it reduces password recovery time by a factor of 50, the company said. Learn more on the developer’s web site, here.
