After a little more than a month of development, Patrick Verner presents a new and greatly improved release of its Linux distribution, Parted Magic 2.2. Increased in size with about 7 MB compared to the previous version, Parted Magic 2.2 comes packed with more hardware drivers, new features and some necessary software updates.

Not only that this new version of Parted Magic is powered by the Linux kernel 2.6.24.3, but it also reintroduces Gparted (latest stable release, 0.3.7), instead of VisParted, and brings the following important updates:

? The X server (Xorg) was updated to version 1.4.0.90; ? NTFS-3G is now at version 1.2506; ? PCMan File Manager updated to version 0.4.0; ? Xfburn, the CD/DVD burning utility was updated to version 0.3.0svn-04719; ? The libburn and libisofs libraries were updated to version 0.4.4 and 0.6.2.1, respectively; ? Conky, the powerful and light-weight system monitor was updated to version 1.5.1; ? The SSH server and client, Dropbear, was also updated to version 0.51.

Other updates worthy of mention are udev 120, lvm2 2.02.33, vte 0.16.13, glib2 2.14.6 and gtk+2 2.12.9.

Now that we saw the updated packages in Parted Magic 2.2, let's take a closer look at the new features added in this release:

? Wide screen resolutions are now supported by default; ? In order to make the execution of user scripts automatic at boot, a scripts folder was added to the pmodules directory; ? You can now use the 'xvesa' kernel command at boot prompt; ? Hard disk partitions can now be dynamically created, so they can be mounted from the desktop. ? X keyboard was added; ? And all the /usr/share/terminfo entries were added in this release.
