Parsix GNU/Linux 5.0, a live and installation DVD based on Debian, aiming to provide a ready-to-use, easy-to-install desktop and laptop optimized operating system, has been announced and is now available for download.

The developers' ultimate goal is to provide an easy-to-install desktop and laptop optimized operating system, based on Debian's testing branch and the latest stable release of GNOME desktop environment.

After quite a few development releases, the final version of Parsix GNU/Linux 5.0 has arrived. It's based on Linux kernel 3.8.13 and on GNOME 3.8.3.

Other important packages are X.Org 7.7, GRUB 2, GNU Iceweasel (Firefox) 23.0, Gparted 0.12.1, Empathy 3.8.3, LibreOffice 3.5.4, VirtualBox 4.1.18, just to name a few.
