Parsix GNU/Linux 7.0r0, a live and installation DVD based on the stable packages from the Debian project and that's using GNOME as the desktop, has been officially released.

The Parsix Linux distribution makes use of the stable GNOME and Debian packages. That is done with a single purpose, to provided users with the most stable experience possible. The Debian version used is "Wheezy" and it was recently marked as a long term support version. This means that it will benefit from security updates for a very long time.

There have been quite a lot of Parsix development releases made in the past few months and the developers have managed to correct all the issues. They have settled on the final version for the packages they implemented in the distribution. Some of them might seem a little bit old, but please keep in mind that their aim is to have an OS as stable possible and it's less about bleeding edge features.

The Parsix final version is here

Parsix developers have been working very hard on the 7.0r0 version, which has been codenamed "Nestor". The dev team has a very specific schedule planed out for a year in advance and it usually pushes two major updates and four minor ones. As you can tell from the version number, this is one of the big ones.

"We are proud to announce that the final version of Parsix GNU/Linux 7.0 a.k.a Nestor is available for immediate download. Parsix Nestor ships with GNOME Shell 3.12.2 and a brand new kernel based on Linux 3.14.23. Other features include a modernized kernel build system, enhanced live boot system and installer to support UEFI based environments, built on top of rock solid Debian Wheezy (7.0) platform."

"This version has been synchronized with Debian Wheezy repositories as of November 6, 2014. Parsix Nestor ships with GNOME 3.12 and LibreOffice productivity suit by default, along with X.Org 7.7, GRUB 2, GNU Iceweasel (Firefox) 33.0, Gparted 0.12.1, Empathy 3.12.7, and  VirtualBox 4.3.10," wrote the devs on the official website.

Check out the official announcement for a complete list of new features and updates. You can download Parsix GNU/Linux 7.0r0 right now from Softpedia. This is a Live CD and it can be tested in a virtual environment, but users will find that the implementation of the GNOME desktop might now work in VirtualBox. If you want to test it, you should use an USB key.
