If you have been keeping a close eye on iPhone accessories then you surely have heard of Parrot since this company is behind some interesting products such as their color range of wireless iPhone speakers, but all of them will fell bland in comparison with the Parrot AR.Drone toy helicopter that can be controlled via your iPhone.

This is possible thanks to an on-board WiFi system that connects to your Apple device, the AC.Drone being compatible not only with the iPhone but with the iPad and iPod touch as well, and allows you to control this quadricopter with just a few taps of the screen.

Furthermore, the AR.Drone can also transmit live video feeds from the two enclosed cameras straight to your Apple device, the front facing camera featuring a 640x480 resolution as well as a 3D tag detection.

This feature, together with the networking mode, that allows for two AR.Drone to be up in the air at the same time, allows for some pretty interesting games to be played such a helicopter tag or helicopter warfare since Parrot's solution is compatible with augmented reality flying games while also featuring a shot validation system (that detects if you hit the enemy drone or not).

And in case you wander what makes this thing tick, then you should know the AR.Drone is actually powered by a ARM9 468 MHz processor that is paired with 128MB of DDR memory and a custom built Linux OS.

A 3 cell lithium polymer battery delivers all the juice necessary for the embedded PC as well as for the four brushless electric motors employed, the flying time being rated at about 12 minutes, although this will most certainly depend on the flight conditions as well as if you use the AR.Drone indoors or outdoors.

End of it all I will leave you with a small video to show you just how cool the helicopter warfare mode is, since words most certainly have a tough time describing it. (via digitaltrends)
