Same steep fines apply for not picking up your dog’s poo

Some consider Paris one of the most magical cities in the world, and the French are making efforts to maintain that image. There are now 450 safety inspectors ready to punish anybody who pollutes it.

A new campaign destined to stop public space in the city from becoming more and more polluted has just been initiated, with offenders facing a €35 fine (about $47).

By pollution, city officials mean littering, public urination, and not picking up one’s dog excrement.

Furthermore, for deposits of bulky waste or rubble with a car one can be left without €1,500 (about $2,020).

It shouldn’t be so hard to follow these simple rules, as the Parisians brag about having a trash can every other 100 meters, and nearly 400 automatic public toilets, all with wheelchair access.

And if you think these fines are steep, we say there is no sufficient fine to punish those who’d rather damage our environment than walk the extra few meters to the nearest trash can.
