I spent the past half an hour trying hard to block out all my negative thoughts about Paris Hilton and think only nice, positive, purty thoughts about the soon-to-be ex heiress. I'm sorry (or maybe secretly happy but I'm not about to admit that, am I now?) to say that I failed miserably. I mean, I did try - OK, not too hard, but nevertheless, I tried - to imagine that Paris is just another human being with a reasonable amount of brains and at least a shred of common sense, and it was all working very nicely up until I came across a recent interview that she did with Parade magazine, in which she let the world know that beneath the fragile (cough) appearance, there's a very strong human being.
"I handle [the media attention] really well. I don't let that bother me or let the media or paparazzi take over my life. I try not to pay attention to things that are negative" she said. Um, that can't be right. I mean, the media and the paparazzi in particular are Paris' life, in the sense that they bring her all the exposure and publicity that she needs in order to keep her own reputation going. Her reputation for not doing anything in particular and still being famous for it. You see, now it's all becoming clear. I mean, how on earth can you think pretty thoughts about Paris when everything she says is all "me, me, me, look at me, I made the right decisions"?
Here's another sample of Paris shrewdness. "I'm very wary of people. I only surround myself with my really close friends and people I've known a long time and people I know love me and know the real me. You know, I'm a really good judge of character, so when people are around that shouldn't be there, I usually will know right away. I know how to make the right choices". Modest, too. One long sentence and already she used "I" about seven times. I counted. Well, faced with that amount of narcissism, what can we do but go on hating her and finding her incredibly annoying?
Oh, and just in case you still have any doubts that this girl actually got to the stage where she believes her own lies, here's more of the same. "I think it would be better just to be rich" Paris says when asked the classic "which one is better, rich or famous or both?" question. "Because then you don't have to deal with anything else. [...] But being rich doesn't even matter, either. I have both, and it doesn't even make any difference. I could be happy if I had nothing. So it's not, it's not really about money to me". OK - on what planet is that true, I ask you? Because here on Earth things are just a little bit different. Well, at least Paris is trying out her hand at a little lesbian loving these days, taking on a part in the lesbian drama "The L Word". This isn't going to help with the rumors, you know. Elisha Cuthbert will be so pissed...
