Celebrities are not supposed to be rocket scientists, it has been said, and, most often than not, they are a far cry from it. However, when Paris Hilton speaks on issues such as politics, the world stops and listens, not because her knowledge is that impressive, but because she usually ends up by putting her foot in her mouth. The same happened yesterday, during a visit to London to launch the UK version of her latest reality show.

True to her ever so famous image, Paris arrived in a pink taxi announcing in large bold letters the launch of “Paris Hilton’s British Best Friend,” a reality show meant to find for her the best boy or girl as a best friend from 12 regular people. Although not long ago bragging about not being just a “spoiled airhead,” Paris showed this time too that, when it came to politics, it was best if her opinion were not taken into account.

Speaking with the media at the press conference for the launch of the show, Hilton could not stop gushing about how much she loved the UK, a strong feeling she expressed on other occasions as well, only less embarrassing. As the British mass media reports, one media representative asked her if she knew who the British Minister was, to which she quickly responded, “It’s Gordon… Gordon Ramsay?”

Sadly for her, Ramsay may be a celebrity and well-known name both in the UK and abroad, but a Prime Minister he is not. Paris later realized that too, and corrected her former statement by saying that it was Gordon Brown, and adding she had been thrown off because she had just had dinner at Ramsey’s restaurant before coming to the press conference. Of course, eating the famous chef’s food does not explain why she answered one question about Essex with another one – “What’s that?” – several local media outlets are saying.

In a recent interview with Heat magazine, Paris Hilton defended herself against accusations of being just a “blonde bimbo,” saying that what people and the media saw of her was nothing but an act. “I think a lot of people have seen me on 'The Simple Life' and think I’m a 'spoiled airhead.' But I was playing a character.” she also explained at the time.
