Not that Paris Hilton is a stranger to scandalous behavior and even some mild (to moderate, depending on whom you believe) drug use, but it’s not like she’s irresponsible enough to smoke pot on a stadium at the World Cup. The famous socialite was detained by police in South Africa on suspicion that she was smoking marijuana, but, as it turns out it just only someone from her entourage that did, People magazine informs.

All respectable gossip-lovers must know that Paris spent a total of 20+ days in jail over a series of charges stemming from a DUI a few years ago. When she emerged, the star said she was determined to change her wicked ways and become a better person, one that would be more responsible and a role model for others as well. Judging by the latest incident, either the police didn’t buy that or the person who complained that Paris was smoking pot at the World Cup was really convincing.

“Paris Hilton had another brush with the law – this time in South Africa. The reality star, 29, was questioned by police Friday in Port Elizabeth for allegedly smoking marijuana at the World Cup. Hilton was briefly detained outside the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, where she had been watching the World Cup quarterfinal match between Brazil and the Netherlands. But a rep for Hilton says she’s been cleared of any wrongdoing,” People writes.

“The incident was a complete misunderstanding and it was actually another person in the group who did it,” a spokesperson for the star says for the magazine, setting the record straight on the misunderstanding. “The case has been dropped against Paris and no charges will be made. The authorities have apologized for wrongfully accusing her since she had nothing to do with the incident. [She is] having an incredible time at The World Cup and looks forward to going on a safari this week,” the rep further adds.

So Paris is a free woman again, since it turns out the entire thing was just a huge mistake, at least from what the spokesperson is saying. TMZ, though, has an entirely different story, saying that, while Paris was not the one who lit up, she did have marijuana on her person at the time cops came into the picture.
