Paris' No-Contest Plea Gets Her Probation

But, mind you, she was not drunk!

Although Paris Hilton still insists that she wasn't drunk on September 7, the night when she was arrested and charged for drunk driving, and that her speeding and weaving in and out of traffic was all due to her craving for a hamburger, she wisely chose to plead no-contest to the charges.

Then again, there would have been no reason for her to do otherwise, especially since the initial charge of drunk driving (brought by her failing one sobriety field test and having a blood alcohol level of .08 percent, the limit at which an adult is 'in violation of the law') was reduced to one of alcohol-related reckless driving.

Paris was not present in court yesterday as her attorneys entered the plea because she was probably too busy 'working'. Her two lawyers presented the no-contest plea to the judge who later sentenced the naughty (and once very hungry) heiress to 36 months on probation, mandatory alcohol education program and a fine of $1,500. He also offered her the possibility to complete her probation in 24 months, if she agrees to do 40 hours of community service, an alternative that her attorneys did not yet respond to.

Besides probation, Paris will also have to comply with other conditions stipulated by the court, namely, she is not to drive with 'any measurable amount of alcohol in her system' and she must never 'refuse alcohol tests'. That actually means that she is not even allowed to have that 'one margarita' she drank a couple of hours before the bust... on an empty stomach, of course!

Elliot Mintz, the man who is always there when it comes to defending her actions (her publicist, that is), said that Paris is satisfied that she can now put the ordeal of the DUI bust past her and move on. 'I spoke to her and she told me she is happy the matter is over', Mintz explained to the reporters. Paris, on the other hand, was not available for comment.
