History has shown that parents simply cannot cope with the idea that their baby may just be ugly. The Dapper Gentlemen, a duo of an app developer and graphic artist who use their combined talents to design iPhone, iPod touch and iPad applications, have developed an iOS app that tells parents whether their baby is ugly or not.

The app is based on the popular Ugly Meter app for iPhone and Android. The system has also been featured on Howard Stern, Jay Leno, Fox News, ABC News, MSNBC, Daily Mail, and the New York Post, the duo say.

The Ugly Meter works like this: it takes your baby's photo and scans the details of his / her face to give it a rating of 1-10 on the Ugly Scale.

That’s right, 10 means the kid is ugly as sin. 1 means he / she’s got the face of an angel, as the developers put it.

Ugly Meter - Baby Edition uses a screen guide to line up a picture of the baby and, based on the camera feed, facial features are scanned to determine the rating of cuteness or ugliness.

“Everyone thinks their baby is cute, but few know the truth,” the Dapper Gentlemen say.

“Ever meet that couple who thinks their baby is the most adorable thing in the world, and nobody has the heart to tell them it's repulsive?” the app’s official description reads.

“Nobody can argue with the results of the Ugly Meter Baby Edition. The Dapper Gentlemen have created an entertaining app that make your baby the center of attention,” the duo said.

The key features of Ugly Meter Baby Edition include:

- Interactive interface tracks faces in real-time - Scanning function operates as you watch - Gives a 0-10 Rating to compare scores with other users - Hundreds of feedback one-liners based on the score

Ugly Meter Baby Edition is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch (4th generation) and requires iOS 3.0 or later. The app costs $0.99 (USD) and is available worldwide exclusively through the iTunes App Store.

Needless to point out, the Ugly Meter - Baby Edition app is for entertainment purposeless only.

Sadly, the Dapper Gentlemen do not make this clear in the app’s description, but it is reasonable to assume that the one dollar iPhone app won’t be able to judge 0 accurately whether a child is cute or not.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.
