Gökcen Eraslan proudly announced yesterday, July 12th, the immediate availability for download and upgrade of the popular Pardus 2011.1 Linux-based Turkish operating system.

Dubbed Dama Dama, the final and stable version of Pardus 2011.1 is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.37.6 and it's available as Live and Installation images for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

Pardus 2011.1 brings interesting new features, including the recently released KDE Software Compilation 4.6.5 environment, LibreOffice 3.4 and Mozilla Firefox 5.0 web browser.

The ISO images of Pardus Linux 2011.1 include full support for all officially approved languages. This makes the images bigger than the size of a CD, so users will have to either use an USB flash drive or a blank DVD media in order to burn and install Pardus Linux 2011.1.

Highlights of Pardus Linux 2011.1:

· Linux kernel 2.6.37.6; · X.Org 1.9.5; · KDE SC 4.6.5; · LibreOffice 3.4.1.3; · Mozilla Firefox 5.0; · The GIMP 2.6.11; · Python 2.7.1; · GCC 4.5.3; · Glibc 2.12; · 64-bit versions of Skype and Wine packages are now available in the 2011 stable repository; · The System Rescue mode was added to YALI; · Added the QuickFormat app to easily format USB flash drives; · Added "yali=nolvm" kernel parameter for those who don't want to use LVM for automatic partitioning; · Lots of bug fixes.

The Pardus developers are also working on an upgrade-manager package for users who want to upgrade their Pardus Linux 2009, 2010 and 2011 installations. To ease the transition to Pardus Linux 2011.1, the upgrade-manager package will be available very soon in the 2009 repositories to ease the transition.

Download Pardus Linux 2011.1 right now from Softpedia. For a painless installation experience, the Pardus developers recommend using good quality DVD media and burn the ISO images in DAO (Disc-At-Once) mode at maximum 4X burning speed.
