Parallels Inc. has released an update to its iOS-based sidekick for users of the Parallels Desktop virtualization solution for Mac OS X. The tool allows customers to remotely control Parallels virtual machines from the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.

According to the experts in OS virtualization, Parallels Mobile 2.3.454 for iOS enhances stability, connection management, and general usability, including new features and fixes.

As a result of Parallels implementing these fixes, Parallels Mobile 2.3.454 adds support for external display (an iPad to VGA adapter is required), and makes the keyboard appear automatically when a text field is selected.

Furthermore, the update improves general stability and performance, and addresses issues with typing text inside virtual machine applications, as well as issues with restoring the connection with the Mac and Parallels Mobile Server.

Finally, graphical issues that occur when running on top of iOS 4.2 are also resolved.

“Parallels Mobile is a free application that allows you to remotely control Parallels virtual machines from your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch,” Parallels Inc. explains.

Besides gaining access to any virtual machine running in Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac, customers can also employ the app to use any Windows application in their virtual machine, as well as remotely start, stop and reset virtual machines, the company said.

The app connects via WiFi or 3G networks, and requires Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac and at least one virtual machine with Parallels Tools installed.

Mac owners must also do some setting up on their computer, by choosing Parallels Desktop > Preferences, Mobile, and logging into their Parallels account using the email they provided during registration.

This version is compatible with Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac only, while earlier versions are not supported. Windows 7 Aero, and sound playback is not supported.
