Virtualization expert Parallels Inc. today offers the newest and massively improved version of Parallels Access (v. 2.0.0), which arrives as a Universal Binary for the first time ever in the app’s existence.

Previously distributed as for-iPhone and for-iPad, the Parallels Access app that lets you remotely access all your Windows and Mac applications and files from your iDevice is now a Universal app.

According to the release notes accompanying version 2.0.0, “Parallels Access is now a Universal app, with support for both iPad and iPhone.”

What this means is that you essentially download the same app for all your iDevices (iPhone, iPad, even iPod touch if it’s a new-generation model), and the software will know to scale up or down, depending on the screen size without you having to worry about a thing.

Parallels Access 2.0.0 further allows users to change the screen resolution, use the new file browser to access files from your computer, wake a sleeping remote computer, register or login using Facebook, and capture audio using the built-in microphone on the iPad or iPhone.

Parallels has included new code corrections and tweaks to make the software more usable and stable, and the download remains free as before. Using it in a work environment requires a license that sells for $19.99 / €17.99 annually and offers unlimited use of Parallels Access for up to 5 computers.

“Your subscription will be charged to your credit card through your iTunes account and will automatically renew unless canceled at least 24-hours before the end of the current period,” says the developer.

Customers are asked to visit the terms of use and privacy policy pages before buying Parallels access.

As far as business users are concerned, the company recommends using Parallels Access for Business, “which offers the ability to centrally manage multiple user accounts and grant and revoke access to company-owned computers.” More information about Parallels Access for Business can be found at www.parallels.com/products/access/business.

To allow iDevices to communicate with remote computers, the Parallels Access Agent is needed. Also a free download, Parallels Access Agent goes onto Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or higher, Windows 7 or Windows 8.

“Just follow the instructions in Parallels Access on your iPhone or iPad to download the Agent and install it on your computer,” says the developer.

To download Parallels Access, you’ll need iOS 7.0 running on iPad 2 and newer, iPad mini, or iPhone 4S and newer.
