Video game developer and publisher Paradox Interactive has announced that it is preparing the first expansion for its grand strategy title Victoria II, called A House Divided, which will be launched via digital download during the first quarter of next year.

The expansion will allow players to choose a new starting point, 1861, which is when the main events that lead up to the American Civil War were taking place.

Gamers will be able to play the entire Civil War period with a number of gameplay enhancements that affect all game systems.

Warmongers will have new options linked to inter state conflict, including the ability to actually manufacture land claims and other reasons to launch hostilities against weaker nations.

Those who like to focus more on internal politics will be able to use a number of new reforms and will experience a rebuild system with more options and a new national focus feature.

In the A House Divided expansion for Victoria II European nations will be challenged by former colonies, which now have the option to adopt reforms in order to civilize and play a bigger role on the world stage.

The developers are also promising new options for the diplomatic side of the game, including the ability to invest in other countries in order to increase relations, and a new interface will allow player to get more information without pausing the game as much.

Victoria II might just be the most complex video game that Paradox Interactive has developed, allowing gamers to choose any country at the beginning of the XIX century and then lead it through the most important century for nation building and modernization, up to the events of the two great world wars.

Players who own Victoria II will be able to pick up A House Divided for the price of 19..9 dollars, 19.99 Euro or 14.99 British Pounds.
