Henrik Fahraeus, the leading developer working on Crusader Kings II at the moment, has suggested that the coming Charlemagne expansion for the grand strategy title might be the last to be offered for the experience and that the team might then move on to another full game.

The information comes from a recent podcast on which the game creator appeared and talked about the core vision for the game, about his love of mods and the way the company is dealing with the fans.

Fahraeus says that the core of Charlemagne for Crusader Kings II will be the longer and more complex event chains that gamers will be able to experience, most of them spanning more than one generation and set to focus on the family of the ruler and his interactions with a variety of other characters.

The game will also now start in 769, which means that Europe is mostly dominated by Pagan political entities and that gamers will have to choose carefully how to develop their nation, embracing Christianity or taking advantage of the older religions.

On the issue of more expansions, the developer suggested that sales for Charlemagne will directly influence if Crusader Kings II will get more support in the future.
