Except for those who are happily married or in a committed relationship, folks are all too familiar with the fact that the dating scene is a mess. Interestingly enough, word has it those hoping to find romance should first take the time to stick their head inside a paper bag.

Not to beat about the bush, media reports tell us there is a new dating trend in town, and that this latest fad is well worthy of being labeled as downright bizarre and utterly brilliant at the same time.

In a nutshell, the dating trend that is now making headlines boils down to making people go on speed-dates while wearing a paper bag over their head. As noticeable in the photo above, the paper bag conceals everything but the eyes and the mouth.

According to Daily Mail, it was the folks behind London-based website Loveflutter.com who came up with the idea to make the dating game a tad more appealing and entertaining by adding brown paper bags to the mix.

Talking to the press, these romance enthusiasts explained that the entire affair started as an attempt to help people find love based on more than looks. Thus, paper bag speed-dating is all about deciding whether or not you want to date somebody based on their personality alone.

The same source tells us that, until now, such speed-dating sessions have only taken place at the British Science Museum in London. The events turned out to be nothing short of successful, which is why their organizers are now thinking about bringing this dating trend to the United States.

“It was a really good laugh. It wasn't as materialistic as normal speed dating and you actually do get to know their personalities,” 24-year-old Jacques Beaupierre told the press in an interview after attending one such event.

“It was an interesting balance to Tinder and Grindr, but also quite difficult as it's hard to get to know someone in two minutes. Your first impression does include how people look and that was denied,” added 31-year-old Ian Maddison.

Since looking at your date's face is out of the question, people attending such events are allowed to decorate the paper bags they put over their heads as they see fit. Many choose to write funny messages that reveal something about their personality, and some even draw smiley faces.

Should things go according to plan, the folks behind this bizarre trend will organize their first paper bag speed-dating event in the United States sometime this coming autumn. The event is expected to take place in New York City.
