Smartphons that sport 1Ghz application processors inside are already two years old, and newer, faster and more powerful handsets are already available for purchase, but none of them sports a 1.5GHz CPU inside, just as the Pantech Vega Racer does.

This would be the first smartphone in the world to sport the said application processor, following the release of HTC's Flyer tablet PC with a CPU clocked in at a similar speed.

However, unlike the already available tablet PC, which sports a single-core processor, the yet unannounced smartphone comes with a dual-core chip inside.

Rumor has it that Pantech might have packed a Qualcomm MSM8660 1.5GHz Snapdragon CPU inside this device, and that it would aim at making it available for purchase only on the Asian market (or in South Korea, to be more precise).

However, it seems that the powerful application processor won't be the only great thing about the new mobile phone, as a 1GB of RAM would also be included inside it, as well as an Adreno 220 GPU for a great graphical experience.

The mobile phone would also include an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as a 1.3MP camera on the front. The handset would offer support for both video recording, as well as for video calling.

On the front, the device would sport a 4.3-inch WVGA LCD touchscreen display, which should deliver a WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) resolution. Apparently, the new smartphone, running under Google's Android operating system, would measure only nine millimeters thick, which would make it one of the slimmest handsets out there.

The Pantech Vega Racer should arrive on shelves with a 1650 mAh battery inside, which should provide users with extended usage times. The phone weighs in at 120g.

For the time being, however, nothing was officially announced on this mobile phone, and it might take a while before the handset enjoys a formal introduction, so stay tuned.
