The Vega Racer 2 smartphone was officially unveiled earlier last month with the promise that the device would hit shelves this month.

Today, Pantech announced the availability of the Vega Racer 2 starting this week. Although the handset maker failed to provide a price tag for the smartphone, Pantech confirmed the device would eventually be available through all three major carriers in South Korea.

Even though this smartphone will most certainly be limited to South Korea, it has been touted as one of the first to feature a ceramic body.

Aside from that, the Vega Racer 2 is praised for its long battery autonomy even though it sports LTE technology, which is a high energy drainer.

According to Pantech, the phone’s 2020 mAh Li-Ion battery should provide up to 10 days of standby time or up to 9.5 hours of talk time.

Obviously, continuous usage time is much less, though the manufacturer claims a longer than average battery life, while still providing blazing fast LTE speeds.

Pantech Vega Racer 2 is equipped with a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset that features a dual core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, as well as an Adreno 225 graphics processing unit.

No word on the amount of memory, but the device is said to come with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Another strong point of the Vega Racer 2 is the hyper-vibrant 4.8-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution.

Obviously, the smartphone will be powered by an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box.

Pantech also claims the phone comes with integrated support for voice commands, enabling users to shoot pictures or videos, browse the gallery or other, just by using their voice. So far, we have no info on the availability of the Vega Racer 2 outside South Korea.
