Today, Verizon Wireless has announced the upcoming of a new smartphone on its network, namely the Pantech Perception, which is set to become officially available for purchase on April 25.

The handset, rumored to arrive on shelves at Big Red ever since January, is set to be released with a price tag of $99.99 attached to it, with the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier, after a $50 mail-in rebate.

The new Pantech device features a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display, is global ready, but runs under Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (though Jelly Bean will arrive on it at a later date).

The specs list of this device also shows an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, along with a 2-megapixel front camera for video calling, and 16GB of internal memory.

The handset is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, which should translate into pretty decent performance capabilities being offered to users.

“The new smartphone, a Verizon Wireless exclusive, aims to change that with Motion Sense. The technology lets users wave a hand over the phone to answer a call, scroll through contacts, change a song being played or find a picture from their library,” the wireless carrier notes.

“Also included is the Camnote app, which lets users capture and save their notes to their phone so they can stay organized. The exclusive app also lets users share those notes with other co-workers and friends using 4G LTE.”

Pantech Perception was launched as a global-ready device, and those who would like to grab it should head over to the wireless carrier’s stores for that, starting with April 25. The smartphone is set to make an appearance on Verizon’s online store as well, also on that day.

“There are times though where our hands may be messy in the kitchen or we’re running from one place to the next and our hands are full with coffee, keys (sometimes coffee and keys) and the phone rings. What should be an effortless task can sometimes be a challenge, the new Pantech Perception looks to solve that,” Verizon notes.
