I presume every one of you knows about the Pantech PG-6100, a handset that has made a couple of waves around the mobile market when it has been launched. But, for the ones of you that aren't familiar with it, I will make a short check over its spec sheet and history. The handset has been released at the end of June 2005 and, at the time, this was a true breakthrough in the world of the clamshells.

It features an MP3 player, photo caller ID, a 1.9 inch 260k colors TFT display, wireless Bluetooth and IrDA connectivity, a 260k colors OLED external sub-display, an FM radio, 256 MB of internal memory, WAP 2.0, support for Java technology and a 2 megapixel CMOS sensor camera with a 4x digital zoom and auto-flash.

Today, this phone is going to head over to South America, in Argentina, where, as the Pantech staff announced, it is going to target 10% of the mobile market until the end of 2007. The carrier that will get in under its protective umbrella will be CTI Movil, an affiliate of the largest Latina American mobile phone carrier, American Movil.

Due to it being named "the complete convergence device", the PG-6100 will be offering the customers a high tech experience of the camera-phone hybridand at the same time, providing a very nice and stylish design.

Keon C. Kim, the senior vice president for overseas marketing at the Pantech Group, has declared: "Since Pantech entered into Argentine mobile phone market at the end of last year, we have been rapidly growing up. We are now making another move to diversify our product portfolio across all price segments and tap into the high-end handset market of the region with our PG-6100. Argentina is fully part of our tremendous efforts to further expand our market share in Latin America. The launch of this new product will help us move closer to achieving our goal of increasing our presence in the region and to position ourselves as a true leading mobile handset manufacturer".

This phone has come to Argentina as the next logical step after the launch of other three handsets, the PG-3810, the PG-1310V, and the PG-1610 in September 2005 and the release of the PG-1410 handset which, at the moment, is one of the best selling mobile phones with a candy-bar form-factor in Argentina.
