Pantech Group has announced the launch of a new Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) handheld, the IM-U160.

The IM-U160 features a 2.6 inch QVGA LCD screen with an aspect ratio of 15:9, compared to the 4:3 ratio that other handsets offer, which is a step forward and very close to the standard 16:9 TV screens. With its wide LCD display, the IM-U160 allows the user to have a very pleasant TV viewing experience while on the go and to watch TV anywhere. For easier and quicker navigation, the IM-U160 has a touch sensor keypad on the upper side that can also vibrate when touched.

If the 184 MB of internal memory the mobile phone comes with proves not to be enough, it can be expanded with an external MicroSD card, and considering the fact that the IM-160 also comes with an Mp3 player, the memory card will prove useful for storing more multimedia files.

The IM-160 also features a 2 megapixel camera with Auto Focus for high-quality non-shaky photos and a PictBridge function that allows the printing of images directly from the mobile phone or memory card.

The handheld will only be available in Korea which is not really surprising, but a still a shame, considering the fact that this mobile phone would have been very popular almost in any corner of the world.

Pantech IM-U610 will be launched under Pantech's Sky brand later this week and will be supplied to all major operators in Korea like SK Telecom, LG Telecom or KTF.
