Via Telcel

Not long after the unveiling of the C600 clamshell, Pantech has announced another new handset that will be available in Mexico. This time it's a smartphone, namely the Pantech Duo 810.

Like the C600, Pantech Duo will be offered by Telcel, the largest Mexican mobile operator, being added to its already large line-up of Pantech handsets.

Since it measures 102 x 50 x 19.9 millimeters, Pantech Duo might be considered a bit thick by some users. Well, it is, but that's because it's a dual-sliding handset, packing two keypads: an alphanumeric one and a full QWERTY one. These make the Duo more than useful for those who need to send lots of text messages and emails.

Running on Windows Mobile 6.0, Pantech Duo brings other nice features besides the two keypads. These include: quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, dual-band HSDPA connectivity (850 / 1900 MHz), a 2.2 TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels and 256K colors, Windows Media Player 10, a 3.5 mm audio jack, Pocket Office for viewing and editing documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF), Outlook email, Pocket Internet Explorer, Instant Messaging, Bluetooth with A2DP, voice memo, handsfree, USB and microSD card support.

The battery packed in Pantech Duo can provide up to 3 hours of talk-time or up to 240 hours of stand-by time - it could have been a better one, especially since we're talking about a smartphone.

Neither Pantech nor Telcel have announced the price of Pantech Duo for Mexico. However, in the US, AT&T offers the handset for the retail price of $99 with a two-year contract agreement, hence Mexican users should expect a similar price.

No word yet on whether the Duo will be available in Mexico in both of its color version (meaning black and red), but users will find out about this in the next few weeks, when the smartphone should hit the market.
