AT&T and Pantech have just announced the first Android smartphone manufactured by Pantech in the U.S., the Crossover.

Pantech Crossover will be available for purchase on June for $69.99 with a two-year contract and minimum monthly data plan.

In addition, the carrier announced that the Android smartphone will be one of the premier phones promoted this summer on the Dew Tour action sports tour, of which Pantech is the official handset sponsor.

Crossover is the latest addition to our popular lineup of AT&T mobile phones,” said Wyatt Whaley, vice president of product planning for Pantech Wireless. “Crossover is a simple, sporty Android device for people on the move and it will be a central part of this year's exciting Dew Tour.”

While the device is not the ultimate Android smartphone, Pantechs intention was to cover a niche in AT&T's lineup that might put its entry-level Crossover handset in a more favorable position in comparison with other phones in the same price range.

The Crossover comes with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, a 3.1-inch multi-touch screen display, and a standard 3-megapixel camera with camcorder, fixed focus, 4x zoom.

Equipped with a 600 MHz processor, Pantech Crossover is powered by Android 2.2 Froyo platform.

It packs the popular AllSport GPS app, an application that offers workout tracking, maps, a calorie counter and other features, as well as Mobile Hotspot support that allows users with tethering plans to connect up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Unlimited Wi-Fi usage on the AT&T's Wi-Fi Hot Spot network with qualifying data plans is also available.

Our Android portfolio continues to grow with unique options for customers of all types,” said Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Device Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “The Pantech Crossover with its unique finish and full keyboard will introduce new and existing customers to smarthphone features for the first time.”

The phone's 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 360 hours of standby time or up to 5 hours of talk time.
