Panda security is celebrating 18 years of activity; the company that specializes in providing security software and security solutions was founded in 1990 in Spain and it has grown considerably since then. It now has subsidiaries in Spain, France, Japan and the US, and has plans to expand even further. A vulnerability has been recently discovered in one of Panda Security's products, in Panda ActiveScan to be more precise. The application is vulnerable to remote code execution due to a flaw in the update function.

Juan Santana, CEO of Panda Security comments: "Panda Security is the leading European security software company and the fourth worldwide. We are present in 56 countries; with clients in over 200 markets; and products translated into 23 languages. Also, we want to be on the stock market in 3 years' time and in order to do so we have designed a growth plan that extends to 2010. We have become a leading player in a highly competitive global market."

Panda sure has come a long way since its early days of a local IT security company. In 1990 the founders of the company only wanted to take on the small amount of viruses that plagued the local market. Back in the day the viruses and malicious software were created by programmers who wanted recognition more than anything else, and the emerging Internet was providing them with just such a possibility. Now Panda Security (the name was adopted in 2007) can provide security software solutions for a wide variety of threats.

The latest vulnerability to be discovered is in regard to the update function in Panda ActiveScan. If the PC user loads special HTML code, then that code will cause buffer overflow and arbitrary code will be executed on that PC. The software is also vulnerable to arbitrary CAB file installation. Panda Security has detected the problem and a fix has been made available.

Juan Santana again: "All through these 18 years we have managed to stay one step ahead of cyber-criminals. The company has always been committed to innovation and is a visionary, staying in the vanguard of the IT security market. This translates into revolutionary technologies and security models that we offer our clients through our solutions."
