Panda Security has announced the release of Panda Antivirus for Mac Corporate Edition, an ideal solution for companies operating with hybrid computing environments, the company said.

Softpedia reported in October 2010 that Panta Security - the cloud security company - had released a new antivirus program for Mac users.

Appropriately called Panda Antivirus for Mac, the new solution aims to deliver comprehensive protection against malware affecting Mac OS X, while also preventing Mac users from transmitting malware to those running Windows or Linux.

Now, Panda Security has a Corporate Edition to sell. The new Panda Antivirus for Mac Corporate Edition protects not only regular Mac computers, but also servers.

In fact, the vendor said, Panda Antivirus for corporate users protects Mac desktops, laptops, servers, and even prevents Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads and iPods from transmitting malware to other operating systems.

The makers of the software included what they call “a centralized administration console,” which simplifies the act of deploying it across networks while facilitating the implementation of security policies and real-time monitoring of security, Panda Security said.

The company believes this will greatly benefit organizations with limited in-house security expertise and funding.

“Many companies, universities, and other organizations now operate with a diverse network topology including Mac servers and workstations that work alongside Windows and other systems,” said Bruno Rodríguez, corporate product director at Panda Security.

“In these mixed environments, it is crucial to protect against specific threats that target Apple platforms, as well as ensure Mac devices cannot be used as carriers for threats to other platforms,” Rodríguez added.

“Panda Antivirus for Mac Corporate Edition takes care of all these concerns through a single solution.”

According to Panda Security, 308 vulnerabilities were discovered in Mac OS X in 2010, 67% of which were classified highly critical.
