Despite denying it earlier this year, the company is dropping the technology

Plasma screens were the bread and butter of Panasonic's TV lineup for a while, and even with the advent of LCDs, the company kept on making and improving them. Nor anymore though.

Assuming this isn't another rumor about to be debunked, it has been discovered that Panasonic will cease production of plasma TVs in March 2014.

This is the second time this “revelation” is made. The first was earlier in the year, but Panasonic denied all rumors in April.

Once manufacture is halted, sales will continue until inventories run out.

Given the losses of 750 billion yen ($7.7 billion / €5.67 billion) in Fiscal Year 2012, I can understand Panasonic's reluctance to keep dragging the business forward. Especially with OLED technology rising, and 4K LCD panels spreading.

The plasma division might not actually disappear though. Panasonic is looking to sell it.
