Panasonic, one of Japan's largest electronics manufacturers, has recently unveiled a new mobile phone named Panasonic Tropical 823P. The handset will be released tomorrow, June 28, via Softbank, the third largest Japanese carrier (and the only one to bring Apple's iPhone 3G to the Asian country).

The new 823P comes after Panasonic 822P, a candybar amazingly thin (only 8.9 millimeters) that was also launched via Softbank.

Tropical 823P is presented by Panasonic as a handset that you can take "in the bathroom and in the kitchen," or even when you go swimming, without worrying that water or other liquids will damage it. That's because the 823P is completely waterproof.

Featuring a clamshell design, the new Tropical 823P weighs 132 grams and, when closed, it measures 108 x 50 x 17.6 millimeters. The phone's list of specs includes the following: a 3 inch TFT internal display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, a secondary external screen of 96 x 25 pixels, WCDMA and HSDPA connectivity for fast data transfer speeds, 1Seg for viewing TV programs, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Music and Video players, IrDA, Web and email capabilities, a 2 Megapixel camera with auto focus and video recording, secondary camera for video-calls, embedded games and so on. The battery packed in the 823P is capable of providing up to 220 minutes of talk-time, up to 600 hours of stand-by time and up to 5.3 hours in TV-viewing mode.

All in all, the new Panasonic clamshell was wisely named "Topical", as it seems one of the best phones that you can carry when going on vacation to Hawaii (or any other tropical location of your choice). Too bad that it will probably never be available for purchase outside Japan.

Although the Tropical 823P will be on sale tomorrow, in five color versions (red, blue, green, white and black), its price is currently not known.
