Media slates may be running about, but tablet devices preceded them by years, especially on the professional and enterprise fronts, where Panasonic's Toughbook might just grow into a real power, given recent developments.

Users may or may not know of a certain device bearing the name of Panasonic Toughbook.

Though it has a more or less similar form factor as media slates, it is geared towards enterprise users and professionals.

Its name alone implies that its construction is more solid, in other words physically resilient, than that of most other items of this shape.

Apparently, Panasonic intends for the Toughbook to make a big name for itself, since it even set up a microsite just for it.

“When we announced our intent to deliver this product earlier in the year, there was a significant amount of interest because of the gap it will fill in the existing spectrum of media tablets,” said Kyp Walls, director, product management, Panasonic Solutions Company.

“This microsite will provide customers seeking enterprise-grade tablets with important updates and, we hope, will become a hub for those interested in the next frontier of mobile computing.”

For those who want to know more about the Panasonic Toughbook Android tablet, the company pointed out the major assets in its new press release.

The 10.1-inch touchscreen, for instance, has stylus support, as well as a high level of visibility, even under sunlight.

Satellite-based GPS features will be included in all future models, as will hardware-level security features and, of course, various physical endurance elements.

It should probably be mentioned that Panasonic uses the word Toughbook on other devices as well, like a certain field tablet and even a full-fledged notebook.

The company should update the microsite with new information on the Android devices it has in the pipeline as new data becomes available.
