14 DAY TRIAL // Back in January, Panasonic introduced the Toughbook CF-LX3 notebook in Singapore, but the laptop failed to make an appearance on the international market.
Well, several months later, the device maker is making the lappy available in Europe, more specifically in the UK. Given this fact, we dare presume Panasonic will be launching the CF-LX3 in the US at some later date, as well.
Panasonic light weight Toughbook CF-LX3 arrives in the UK
Until that happens, Panasonic is bringing its rugged and lightweight Toughbook CF-LX3 to British shores. The company says the device has been designed for “busy mobile executives” so it’s targeted a professionals working in risky environments.
The laptop weights 2.7 lbs / 1.2 kg which is quite impressive for a rugged machine and can offer a life cycle of up to 14 hours.
Actually, if we are to make a more detailed comparison, we’ll find that ASUS’ new Zenbook UX305, which is marketed as an Ultrabook, has the same weight. Way to go Panasonic for managing to pull this off.
Anyway, going back to the specs of the machine, the CF-LX3’s form factor is said to be compact enough to hold a 14-inch panel, where one would normally find a 13-inch one.
On the outside, the lappy is made of a special magnesium alloy in a wave ribbed design, which bestows the rugged properties on the laptop, but also helps with cutting down weight.
In the computing department, the new Toughbook relies on an Intel Core i5-4310 vPro 2.0GHz processor fitted with built-in Intel HD 4400 graphics, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of solid state drive.
For those users who feel they need more, there’s also an option to update to 8GB of RAM. To complete the spec list, we’ll tell you the laptop brings about VGA, HDMI, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and Ethernet ports.
On top of that, it has built-in SD card, full HD webcam, 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless and Bluetooth 4.0. Last but not least, it comes with an illuminated keyboard with a 19mm set pitch.

Battery is an important aspect for professionals on the go, so Panasonic says the laptop can offer up to 14 hours of juice on one charge. On top of that, the company throws in a fast charging option, so you can pump juice back in your laptop in just three hours.
If that’s not enough, there’s the option of replacing the battery with a swappable one. As a last note, we’ll note that as expected in the case of a rugged machine like this, the CF-LX3 will survive a drop from a desk / table from up to 30 inches / 76 cm.
The Panasonic CF-LX3 will arrive in UK with a price of £1,380 / $2,237 / €1,173 plus VAT. Quite pricey indeed.
